Newport Marathon #19

Running back-to-back marathons has become a tradition for me, and this year was no exception. This was my second year taking on the challenge, and once again, it didn’t disappoint. As soon as we finished pacing the Hartford Marathon, we hopped in the car and drove straight to Newport for the next race. To make it even more fun, we managed to talk a few friends into joining us for the back-to-back marathon adventure.

This time, we decided to up the ante and rent an Airbnb with some of our friends. It turned out to be an excellent choice. The location was so convenient that we could have walked back to the house after crossing the finish line. Having a cozy place to unwind with friends made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

The Newport Marathon itself was like revisiting an old friend. We had run it back in 2013, so we knew what to expect. The course was familiar, and that sense of knowing gave me confidence. I felt bulletproof going into it, remembering that I didn’t drop dead the last time I attempted this back-to-back feat. That reassurance made all the difference.

One of the highlights of the race was the final mile. I remember dropping the hammer and running those splits so much faster than I thought I could. It felt amazing to finish strong, and it was a testament to how much I’ve grown as a runner over the years.

Kim was absolutely right when she said that this year felt more like an adventure. We ran for the joy of it, without stressing about pace or performance. It was a refreshing reminder of why we fell in love with running in the first place. Sharing the journey with friends and embracing the experience made this year’s back-to-back marathons truly unforgettable.
