Miami Marathon #10

The Miami Marathon was a truly special experience this year, especially because Kim was able to join me after missing it the previous year. The race felt even more meaningful knowing we could share it together.

We started the trip by staying with our wonderful friends, Gordon and Kathleen, in the beautiful Florida Keys. Their hospitality made the weekend feel like a mini-vacation, and the relaxed atmosphere was the perfect way to ease into marathon mode. After a few days of enjoying the Keys, we made the drive to Miami, ready to take on the race.

Having run the Miami Marathon the year before, I felt well-prepared this time around. I had learned from experience and made sure to bring salt with me—a crucial detail in the warm and humid conditions Miami is known for. The city’s vibrant energy was palpable as we picked up our race bibs and explored the expo. It was clear that this marathon would be as colorful and lively as the city itself.

Race day arrived, and the starting line buzzed with excitement. Running through Miami’s iconic neighborhoods and over its bridges was as exhilarating as ever. The views were stunning, from the sparkling water to the city skyline. The crowd support along the course added an extra boost, with spectators cheering and music filling the air.

Midway through the race, the skies opened up and it started pouring on us. The rain was a welcome relief from the heat, and for a moment, it felt refreshing and invigorating. Kim predicted, "It's going to stop and get warm again," and he was absolutely right. Once the rain stopped, the heat returned with full force, especially on the causeway where there was no shade. The sun blazed down, making it a challenge to stay cool, but we did the best we could to keep our minds off the heat and focus on the journey.

With Kim by my side this time, the race felt different in the best way. We encouraged each other through the miles, keeping a steady pace and enjoying the journey. The heat and humidity were challenging, but staying hydrated and using the salt I had brought made a big difference.

Crossing the finish line together was a moment I’ll never forget. It was a celebration of perseverance, preparation, and the joy of running in one of the most vibrant cities in the world. The Miami Marathon this year was not just a race; it was a shared adventure, and I’ll always treasure it.
