The Newport Marathon was an unforgettable experience—and not one I ever expected to have! Kim had always had running two marathons back-to-back on his bucket-list goal. For me, this was uncharted territory, and honestly, I was terrified.
Right after crossing the finish line at the Hartford Marathon the day before, we jumped into the car and drove straight to Newport, Rhode Island. There, we picked up our race bibs at a small and cozy expo in a tent. It all felt surreal, knowing we’d just run a marathon and were gearing up to do it all over again the next morning.

On race day, I found myself at the start line alongside Kim. He reassured me it would be an adventure and promised we’d have fun. As the race began, we were treated to the most picturesque ocean views that Newport has to offer. The scenery was breathtaking, even if the crowd support was minimal. At one point, we passed a small group of spectators banging on pots and pans to cheer us on. I jokingly told Kim, “That’s how rich crowd support works—with their fine dining utensils.” It was hilarious and helped lighten the mood.
The second half of the course brought us to the hillier sections, weaving through charming neighborhoods. It was a challenge, but we kept our spirits high by indulging in candy bars along the way. The sugar gave me an unexpected burst of energy, and I felt completely wired. It was such a fun and unique experience that I almost forgot how tired I was from the day before.
As we approached the finish line, the course took us downhill. Kim grabbed my hand, and together we crossed the finish line. It was a major accomplishment for me, and I’ll never forget the feeling of achieving something I once thought was impossible. Running two marathons back-to-back may not have been on my bucket list, but it’s an adventure I’ll cherish forever.
