This year marked my fourth time running the Boston Marathon, and as always, it was an experience like no other.

For the first time, I took the Hartford Track Club bus to Hopkinton. Since the Fleet Feet Adidas 360 program ended, the bus has become the go-to option for many of us in the running community. With heightened security protocols post-2013, we had to pick up our bibs in Boston on Friday—something to keep in mind for future races.
The Morning Journey
On Monday morning, Kim and I headed to West Hartford to board the bus. The ride to Boston was uneventful, giving me a chance to chat with fellow runners and soak in the pre-race energy. The forecast had been weighing on my mind—it was going to be a warm day, and heat has never been my ally. Still, I resolved to take it one mile at a time and focus on finishing strong.
The Race Begins
The atmosphere at the start line in Hopkinton is always electric, and this year was no different. I started strong, feeling the energy of the crowd and the excitement of being back on this iconic course. The early miles flew by, but as the day heated up, so did the challenge.
By the halfway point, I could feel the toll the rising temperatures were taking. My pace slowed, and I dug deep to keep moving forward.
Heartbreak Hill and a Much-Needed Boost
When I reached Heartbreak Hill, I was running on sheer determination. That’s when I spotted some of my closest friends cheering me on from the sidelines. Their energy was contagious, even if I wasn’t exactly in the mood to chat or smile. Angie offered me some salt, and with a quick thank you (or perhaps just a nod), I kept going. Their support was the push I needed to conquer the hill and power through the final miles.
The Finish Line
Crossing the finish line on Boylston Street is always an emotional moment, and this year was no exception. Exhausted but relieved, I made my way to the hotel where the Hartford Track Club runners had gathered.
A Party on the Ride Home
The ride back to West Hartford was the perfect surprise. What I thought would be a quiet, reflective journey turned into a full-on celebration. The bus regulars brought snacks, champagne, and beer, transforming it into a party bus. It was a wonderful way to end the day, surrounded by laughter, camaraderie, and a shared sense of accomplishment.
